How to Make Your Logo Look Great in Squarespace
Does your logo look too big? Too small? Too blurry? Too blocky?
If you are not a designer, making your logo look good in Squarespace is not always intuitive! Today I’m going to walk you through how to make your logo look the way you want it by troubleshooting some common issues.
How to add a logo to a Squarespace site: The basics
In this video, I’ll show you the basics on how to add a logo to Squarespace (both a desktop one as well as a mobile logo).
NOTE: A mobile logo is optional! If you don’t add a mobile logo, your desktop logo will show up by default. More on this below!

Nope, you absolutely do not. If you are DIYing your site, it’s likely that you don’t have a second version of your logo, so do not fret. If you hired a graphic designer, they may have created one for you, but not always.
Here are some reasons why you might use a different mobile logo:
1) If your main logo is not very readable on mobile
2) You want to incorporate/reinforce/have fun with some other elements of your brand!
“Why does my logo look too small?” Or “why is there so much extra space around my logo?”
First, I’m going to assume you have tried the logo sizing sliders in Squarespace (if not, make sure you check out the video above).
Usually if your logo looks too small in Squarespace (often while still taking up way too much space, causing you to have a huge header!), it’s because there’s actually some extra space in your logo file.
How to crop it out:
You can use Canva or Photoshop (if you’re familiar with those)
If you’re a Mac user you can use Preview to crop an image
If you’re on Windows you can use Photos (check out this video for a simple tutorial)
How does removing extra space make my logo look bigger?
Here’s a video that demonstrates how removing extra space allows you to make your logo bigger (in this video I use Canva and change the dimensions of the image to remove extra space).
Why does my logo look blurry on Squarespace?
The culprit is likely the size of your logo file and the number of pixels it has. If you add some more pixels it will look clean and crisp!
Squarespace recommends that your logo be a minimum of 1500px. If you watch the video above, I mentioned that the logo I created in Canva was 2000px wide. That way, if the logo is viewed on a huge desktop or on a little phone, it’s going to look sharp because it has enough pixels to display the image perfectly.
If you are working with a designer, they should supply you the correct size logo. And if you are DIYing with Canva, make sure you use that 1500px benchmark when creating your design!
Why does my logo have a white background?
For a logo to have no background (aka a “transparent background”) it has to be exported as a PNG (not a JPEG/JPG) and there has to be no background set in your design.
In this video I demonstrate how to remove the background in Canva in my paid account, but Canva now has a free background remover tool so you can do this same process for free.
